Ignorance....featuring Bob Correia, Joan Menard, and unaccounted voices of the state legislature

The Massachusetts State Legislature chose to ignore the voices of 7,561 Fall River registered voters and proceed with the Fire Chief change from civil service to contract.

As ignorant as they come, State Senator Joan Menard- former boss/mentor of Adam "Chappy" Chapdelaine said in the Herald News, that in her 10 years in the Senate and 20 more in the House, she had never seen a voter referendum petition filed against a Home Rule request. “I give them credit. They’re concerned about it." ......YES WE ARE CONCERNED! yet a group of politicians lead by Bob Correia and Joan Menard willfully chose to ignore our voices.

Please do 2 things:
1) DO NOT VOTE FOR BOB CORREIA OR JOAN MENARD EVER AGAIN
2) PLEASE Contact Governor Patrick to voice your concern about
the situation - he is able to veto the bill. Remind him about
the 7,561 registered voters that said NO to a contract fire chief.

What is interesting too is that in other occasions where the Senate was unsure about the validity of a Home Rule petition, the Senate submitted the question to the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court for their opinion.

I just filled out my email request to the governor. I urge everyone else to do the same.

Excellent! I am glad they sounded familiar with the issue - hopefully that means lots of people are calling. Thank You!

Does anyone have a copy of the legislative vote? I moved away, but I want to see how my rep. voted on it. Thanks!

Unfortunately it was a voice vote so there is no record of individual votes.

I e-mailed Gov. Patrick this morning asking that he veto the Home Rule petition in the best interests of the people of Fall River. I let him know that I was one of the 7,561 voters whose voices were ignored by our mayor.

Ironically, after reading the HN article announcing the passage of the petition I turned the page and saw Correia's new hierarchy of city authority in the HN "reshuffling" article. He had the condescening audacity to put "The people of Fall River" at the top of the ladder even above his highness himself. What a joke!

Shamrock,

I am afraid the fix is probably in with the governor already. We may need a stronger message to the governor reminding him we are also
mass taxpayers.

and when is the fall river "town meeting" ???

BOSTON — James J. Karam is back on the UMass Board of Trustees, one year after being ousted as chairman of the board by former Gov. Mitt Romney following a contentious battle for a public law school on the SouthCoast.

Mr. Karam was reappointed Tuesday by Gov. Deval Patrick. It came a little more than a year after Mr. Romney failed to reappoint him to a second five-year term on the board.........
