FREE or Moon Condos?

Let me say that I hope the FREE plan to unearth the Quequechan river works. However, it isn't a new idea; local organizations have been working on the ideas presented in FREE, for years, maybe even some decades. While I really hope to see this project completed in my lifetime, I am always suspicious of Bob Correia and I think alot of this effort is a lofty means to gain political capital for reelection.

Watching the FREE presentation, I kept hearing Correia thank George Delany for the ideas and his work on the FREE project. Hopefully FREE plans are more realistic than Mr. Delany's other project, the University of Fall River College of Interplanetary Sciences where students are offered "the opportunity to examine the possibilities for building expanded human communities in space, on the moon, Mars, and beyond" (slide 26 in the above link).

So which is more likely, a Fall River based college for building moon condominiums, or Bob's FREE plan?

Sure the whole idea sounds great, but I just don't thing FR has the population to pull it off. a lot of people in FR are transient and just as well put a shopping cart in the river then pick up a soda can. I think all the focus should be on removing the apartment type housing projects and replacing them with homes, the city really needs to reduce the number of apartments it has, there is no industry to support the number of units in this city then you end up with all this section 8 they are do only ones that can live in a town with no industry. They should also focus on the basics the city cannot keep cops on the force, but we can use the Q river to make electric? Come on get your priorities straight, strong basics take care of a lot of the other issues. I knew when MarkYou closed this city would go to hell in a hand basket.

Maybe the plan is to ship fall river's major industry (section 8) to the moon.

This is the kind of thing we shoSMILES enters its third year as an incould be reading in The uld be reading in The Sterile Snooze but won't

This is from the Sterile Sterile Snooze

SMILES enenters its third year as an incorpited nonprofit organization. During the meeting, the board elected officers, heard from Executive Director Jim Mathes about the organization’s growth and applauded the director of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra for using music to touch the lives of children throughout the region.

The board of directors elected Citizens~Union Savings Bank President Nicholas Christ as chairman. He succeeds Joel Burns, who will remain active on the board as immediate past chairman. Other officers elected at the meeting included Elizabeth Isherwood as vice president, Nicholas Fischer as treasurer and Lisa Birknes Tavares as secretary. New members elected to the board were Fall River City Administrator Adam Chapdelaine, Fall River School Superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown and Omari Walker, principal of the Resiliency Preparatory School in Fall River.

Look at all the hacks on this list and SMILES is run by Mathes, boyfriend of Sterile Fool Editho Lisa Strattan. So much REAL digging about the city's elite do u think the Sterile will do.? There will be some bitchy editorials about Correia, just for show but no investigative stories with real numbers, dates that might hurt anyone on this hack list

George Delany is working on the FREE project with the mayor. People have voiced concern over the "pie in the sky" nature of the project and the likelhood of Correia actually going anywhere with it; the fact that a man who wants to make Fall River the brain center for moon housing, is at the center of the FREE planning = drives home the critics argument.

Sounds like the mayor latched onto something to try to look good.

Or bad.

Clearly Delaney did not dream up this project or come up with it by his lonesome, but the elites have decided this idea best be given credit to someone who is one of them. This project is clearly a combination of a number of ideas put forward over the past 8-9 years by Green Futures, Free the quequechan group, Al lima, Everett Castro and most publically by Rick Oliveira and in print almost a year before it was announced in O Jornal. Just ask Rep. Mike Rodrigues how long this plan has been out there. Funny how the credit was not dolled out to those who are most responsible just to those who are arrogant enough to want people to beleive it. I hope FREE works but it should be free from those who would take credit for something they overheard or laughed at years prior.

All one has to do is look at the picture with the dam, and the tunnel, and the elimination of ramps, and you have to believe that this project would be to expensive to pull off. Nice idea, but with the city and state having no money, whose going to pay for this project. I doubt the federal government will finance it alone.

Oh I think the project can work, it can but only if Obama is on board. Think about it, 120 years or so ago this city was pwoered by the river. It is amazing it has taken this long for this idea to take shape. Yes, we all know it was not the mayor's idea and we know that the idea has been ongoi ng for a while and the folks at FROED did nothing about it for years and years and years. All fo this is true. Yes there is a political opportunity here. But most importantly it is a chance for the city to do something positive, be bold and overcome its lack of thinkers in so many high or important places. Sometimes you wonder if we would be better off just having blind nominations for mayor etc. and force it upon those who could do a good job if they didn't hate all the campaigning and asskissing and dealmaking that goes with getting elected. Ultimately if the FREE project goes forward it will have less to do wtih the pols and more to do with all of us.
thanks for the chance to post!
