I don't know whether it is the New Jersey license plates contrasting with the super important Fall River Mayor's license plate, which is proudly displayed in the back window (click to enlarge), OR whether it is the rental car parked in the Mayor's space, there is just something about the shot that I like.

While we are on the subject.....I have heard differing reports of how many people were at Mayor Correia's Portuguese Cultural Center (huge venue) campaign fundraiser on Thursday. The numbers have varied widely between 35-50 people. What I DO know is that he was scheduled to be at a student event the next morning and didn't bother to show up (maybe he was afraid of getting booed).

I can understand why the Herald News would do an article on proms. I can understand why the Herald News would do an article on how 'tough economic times' affect prom business; but why the heck would the Herald News think that the daughter of Ken and Carole Fiola, both of whom make lots and lots of money, is an appropriate representative kids weathering 'tough economic times.' "despite the lousy economy, Fiola’s not giving up her one shot at splurging for the junior prom." My thoughts:

Using Lauren Fiola as the poster child for a prom goer splurging, despite the tough economic times, is just distasteful and a slap in the face. Luckily for her, her family is not feeling the effects of tough economic times, but rather, her family is partly responsible for tough economic times.

A $300 dress is a month's worth of food for many in Fall River. A $30 tanning package is a month of electricity for others. But her family can afford this, this is not a case of someone going all out despite the economy. I am sure there were plenty of kids in $50 dresses paid for by parents who worked an extra shift to buy it...and THAT is going all out in tough economic times. NOT a kid who's bmw suv driving mother spent pocket change on a dress made out of zebra and pasties."

This is not a reflection on the kid, I am sure she is a great (and I "reported abuse" for the nasty comment on the HN - but they haven't taken it down), she just isn't the appropriate figure to represent tough economic times. There are plenty of kids who didn't get to go to their prom because they didn't have any money.

Has anyone else noticed the garbage smell over the past two weeks?

Bob Correia is not even going to make it pass the primary. So he does not have to hang onto the number 5 plate for very long. This race is quickly coming down to Cathy Ann and Will Flanagan and I know which one I'm voting for.

RAYNHAM — An official at a Raynham company is asking for $80 million in damages in a lawsuit that accuses her boss of sexual misconduct over several years, according to a published report.
Jane Collins, a Fall River resident, assistant U.S. marketing manager at Margarete Steiff GmbH’s U.S. offices in Raynham, accused Martin Frechen, chief executive of the German toy maker, of rape and making repeated unwanted sexual advances, the Wall Street Journal reported.

MORE Sterile Snooze reporting right out of the Wall Street Journal. How shameful. Thank God this "newspaper" will close soon.

80 million for a mike herren throw away?

Give me a break. I give Will credit for the effort, but, he has NO CHANCE. The Port. community will never go with him. He is wasting his time. He is no Eric Poulin. It will be Cathy vs. Correia at the end. Correia will win re-election. It is only a matter of the margin. However, the Mayor must show economic progress over the summer months. There was a more qualified field of mayoral candidates two years ago. Without a doubt!!!

Stop mentioning a young, harding working, positive role model in this blog. Clearly, Sullivan supporters at their best.

By the way, is Will still driving Sullivan and his wife around the city?

Anon 19:07, are you talking about Will Flanagan or Lauren Fiola? If you are talking about Lauren Fiola, I will accept your word that she is a young, harding working, positive role model. I never said she was not. What I did say was that she was a poor example of someone suffering the effects of tough economic times. I am not sure what any of this has to do with Ed Sullivan.

I'm with shamrock, it has nothing to do with this young girl, it has to do with the fact that the HN should have profiled a student who comes from a family who is actually struggling.

Anon 1903 you may be right about the Port. community, as the mayor has already begun to buy them off with questionable deals.

Does someone have to have a portuguese name to gain the portuguese vote?

Anonymous said...

Yes, the last name means a great deal.

No candidates do not have to be Port to have the community's vote.
The Port, rallied behind Lambert for years.
The Port, back Hodgson
The Port read the Herald News,
The Port are more likely to turn against Car- rei-a for the same reasons others have.

look at cathy anne's facebook page it looks like a picture of Karam at her event at flaunt.

WJ Bloggah said...

That's not a Karam, that's one of the "Exotic latinos" the Hurricaine hangs out with.

Looks like they deleted all of the comments on the Lauren Fiola story. I can imagine the fit Kenny Boy threw over that, basketbals a plenty were flying around!

I feel kinda bad for Lauren Fiola, she must feel like one of the Bush daughters. A young girl trying to grow up and be her own woman and no one can look past her name because the whole city thinks her parents are scumbags. What's that got to be like?

any idea if our mayor bothers to attend the conference of mayors recently 15 minutes away in providence???

shamrock said...

I was wondering about that too. He didn't make a point to let us know he was there, so I am guessing he did not attend. He skipped a scheduled event friday and he missed the St. Anthony of Padua procession in which he was supposed to participate. Did Bob run away?

I hear he is away taking driving lessons.

I did not see the Karams at the Cathy's Flaunt event but I did see the people who want the strip club on Rodman street there. Any connections?

The M5 plate is not a Mayor's plate it is municiple licence plat that is to be used on a city vehicle. If it is no longer attached to a city oned vehicle by law it should have been surrenderd to the registry. By putting on his personal veh. he has broken the law and should be charged with illeagily attaching plates and theft of a licence plate. Also why does his wife have one, if he used a city veh she would not be able to drive it she does not work for the city why does he think he can put a stolen licence plate on her car

between cathy and will? seriously? cathy can't keep herself out of bankruptcy or keep her businesses from being shut down by the attorney general. will is too inexperienced and it shows if you talk to him concerning the issues. correia's only real challenge is hague. don't even bring up camara... unless you think a draft dodging ex-con can win!
