City Council President FAIL

While watching the 9/2/08 Fall River City Council meeting, I was struck by the sarcastic comment interjected during business by Council President Joe Camara.

So this article in the Herald News did not surprise me.

I am very interested to see how Joe's new rule is going to work out.

Wow! That is very interesting that President Camara mentions the idea to speed up the meetings while Ray Hague talks about the naughty and nice lists!

There was more to that too. I probably should have left it in. Joe Camara had just finished a diatribe about how there is no favoratism going on and if there was, everyone would notice......um everyone is noticing Joe!

Joe Joe gotta GO

I can't take credit for it but I read on another blog his new nickname is Joe "The Hammer" Camara. He isn't the sharpest tool in Bob Correia's shed but he gits er done! Hammering through whatever the Mayor wants is Joe Camara... You want a Council meeting at 1 p.m. on a Friday with no public input allowed in order to hammer something through? No problem Mr. Mayor. Joe "The Hammer" will git er done!

Bang that gavel, hammer it home! Y'all Councilors shut up, the 6 of us already know how we are going to vote and your are just delaying the inevitable. Plus Joe has gotta get home in time to watch American Idol.

Is the Herald News your ONLY source other than a couple of web sites?

wow same person different blog with the same comment. The story was in the Herald News not the boston globe. Perhaps you could come up with another source or provide some valuable input.

Sure. What I'm getting at is, most people on these blogs seem to feel the local paper isn't very good, yet the local paper remains the most quoted source on EVERY blog. That doesn't seem at all odd to you?

Anonymous said...

Ok now I understand what you are getting at. Unfortunately what happens is the Herald News writes a story , wsar reads it and that is the basis for their show that day. The readers/listeners have to research the facts themselves and comment, so in essence we are oing their job for them!

It's the local paper.

What other sources do you suggest bloggers use?

Anonymous said...

I'm only saying that local blogs don't seem to know nething other than what's in the Herald News, with the additioon of some public rtecord stuff that's easy to find...using the biased local paper as a source for most discussion guarantees you repeat their sins of omission and accept their biased ideas of wat's important and wat's not...that guarantees no change in Fall River

What's your solution?

in essence bloggers have to disregard the local media and do their own reporting...commenting is cheap.

someone might want to check fall river police report 08-4646
================

If a "citizen journalist" did this, he'd have a story

Why don't you tell us what 08-4646 is rather than telling people to go look it up. If it is that great, let's see it.

To anonymous 9:39 and later:

Don't you think that a video recording of Joe Camara's foolish comment at a City Council meeting is a pretty good source for a blog about Joe Camara's foolish comment at a City Council meeting? Not sure how you can have a problem with that.

I think the HN link was useful because it used direct quotes from Camara that reiterated his plan to stifle his colleagues voices.

As bad as the HN's reporting can be at times, I'm not skeptical enough yet to believe they make up the quotes they attribute to local public figures.

In response to the anonymous comments regarding my journalistic abilities: I am not a journalist, I am a blogger. People at the Herald News get paid to investigate stories. I do not.
I would love to spend all day investigating stories and reporting them but that is not what I get paid to do.

Although I am critical of their journalistic abilities, as you are mine, it is difficult not to cite it since they are the local daily paper. This post offers the only cite of the Herald News I have used in the last 7 posts and it is superfluous....most of my links to the HN are superfluous.

I report stories when I see them but I do not and cannot actively go out and look for them. If you have something that you feel needs to be reported send me an email and I'll be happy to address it.

On that note - the fall river police department would not release report 08-4646 to me. Many criminal reports and arrest reports are public record but since I have no idea what this is I am unable to address the police departments refusal to give it to me. Feel free to provide more information so I can feel like the "investigation" wasn't a complete waste of my time.

This person posted this police report # on another blog a few weeks ago. It leads nowhere, the guy is a kook.

The call was "harassing phone calls" to someone highly placed at the Herald News from someone well known in Fall River. No arrest but a report was taken and used in court the next week to obtain a restraining order

Anonymous said...

Can I guess? Was it a Herren to Lisa Strattan?

Anonymous said...

That restraining order started when she divorced him, who cares?

Anonymous said...

No kidding who cares! This blog was supposed to be about city council time limits, not the dumpy Herren family.

Here is a city council president comment from a view from battleship cove:

just heard that Joe Camara just got his sister-in-law a clerk job at Durfee HS paying somewhere around 35K. Is this true? Why is this allowed to happen during a hard hiring freeze? The mayor said he's not going to sign the checks for anyone to be paid that is newly hired. Who said that FR School Dept isn't political any more? HAHA

This info needs to be verified. If it is true Mr. Camara has got some explaining to do..in five min. or less.
