Clearly the majority of Fall River City Councilors (aka the Sycophant Six) are having no problems contacting department heads while the three with backbones (Leo Pelletier, Steve Camara, and Ray Hague) are at the whim of Mayor Correia when trying to do good for the citizens of Fall River.

Yup definitely seeing a trend, the sycophant six get to go to the fundraisers and get access to the big Correia donors and also get whatever they want done. Leo, Ray and Steve's supporters may not be supportive for too long and may join up with one of the sycophant six if they know that is the only way to get something done and isn't that the point Correia is trying to make? Question Correia and get nothing. Unfortunately I predict Correia and all 6 Councilors re-elected in a landslide and the 3 who actually ask questions possibly in danger. If Correia finds anyone like a Mike Lund to run for office again he could end up with an even bigger majority, 7-2, 8-1, 9-0? Who knows, the voters of the city are mostly asleep so anything is possible.
Let's hope we have one great candidiate come out to run against this new regime. It is rediculous to have a local goverment run this way.
Maybe the six should have talked to the Mayor BEFORE they actually admitted on video they are being favored. Wasn't there and edict that came down they HAD to go through his office to speak with dept heads??
maybe kilby will come back and even the playing field a bit. he would dlearly bounce someone out, most likely lund-- great article again--loved it
I thought it was interesting that Lund was laughing so hard. It was as though his laugh was confirmation that you are absolutely correct. I'm sure leo is funny, but if it weren't true and he was attackin the mayor do you think one of the six would laugh. I think they would have played it more defensive like the rest of the nice list. I hope Kilby and Poulin both run!!
I agree, let's start our own search for other candiates as well!
Shamrock, take a poll!!!!
Please start a poll for potential candidates for City Council, School Committee, and Mayor!
We can replace the current city politicians we have voted into office even with the climate of induced fear and favoritism.
First each of us needs to go out and vote. Second, remember once you do go in to vote you are in the box alone and still have the freedom of choice.
Shamrock, you've outdone yourself! And you have such great material to work with. I could almost see the smirk on Cathy Ann's face as she feigned innocence in describing her ease of access to the department heads as compared to the Three. As if she and Pereira don't relish the situation! Do they think it makes them look clever and righteous? Not in my eyes nor in those of many other voters, I'm sure.
You know the mayor loves to tell dept. heads they can go at any minute! So I guess fear and intimididation plays a huge role here.
agreed but unless we are in china I don't see how he can be in the voting booth with you when you vote!!!
I'm reading all this internal bitterness between many Fall River personalities that seems to be holding the city back. My question is simply this: Would Fall River elect a Republican who has a great business record outside of Fall River that wants to bring the necessary leadership Fall River desperately needs. Someone that grew up there, understands the city and its challenges and positive things it offers? A person that owes nothing to anybody and will do what is right. Is Fall River ready for that change? I may have a candidate in the next few years that will be exciting for Fall River's future. My question is can an Outsider get elected with a R next to their name on the ballot? I would be interested in any feedback you could give me. Thanks!
Dear Anon 23:10,
Being an outsider, meaning that your residency is outside of Fall River, is not a barrier at all. In fact, you probably don't have to live in Fall River during the election or even after the election. I say this because a current member of our City Council used a Swansea address on public records months after the election.
Second, the municipal elections in Fall River are non-partisan, so the candidates for School Committee, City Council, and Mayor do not designate their party affiliation on the ballot. Although your potential candidate's voter registration is a public record, and if your candidate is a Republican, it will not go over very well with the electorate in this city.
I recommend (1)not registering as a Republican, and consider being unenrolled in any political party, (2) register as a Democrat - it's been done before to get elected, or (3)remain a Republican and hope the electorate will choose the best candidate (not likely).
Is your candidate Portuguese, or able to speak Portuguese?
That may overcome some of the stigma of being a Republican.
Finally, is this candidate Sarah Palin? I'd vote for her for anything!
As a registered Democrat I would would consider voting for the above candidate. I would consider voting for anyone that is not running for re-election here except for camara, hague and even leo!!! Enough is Enough we need some viable candidates as you mentioned here:
Someone that grew up there, understands the city and its challenges and positive things it offers? A person that owes nothing to anybody and will do what is right. Is Fall River ready for that change? I
Fall River isn't going to get any change unless a lot of people finally get angry and involved and I hate to be negative but I don't see a lot of people getting angry and involved, many things have needed improvement in Fall River for so long that people just accept the mediocrity that we get from our politicians, it's like we think we don't deserve better or justify it by saying oh well he/she is a nice guy. Heck, we elect people like Bob Correia who isn't even at least nice and we still get the same mediocrity. We have an unhealthy addiction to the same do nothing names and faces.
