The Headlines Say it All

The casino industry is in a major slump. Casino layoffs and bankruptcy are becoming par for the course in the casino industry. Yet, many casino supporters and their leader Will Flanagan insist that the casino will end Fall River's problems. Will it? A recently opened casino in the similarly situated town of Bethlehem, PA laid off nearly 100 people within their first year. Can Fall River handle that? Because it is a distinct possibility. Casino revenues are down, casinos are going bankrupt, casino workers are losing their jobs.

No need to read the following articles, these recent headlines pretty much say it all:

This guy Flanagan sang the syren song to everyone who simply hated Correia and the majority of these people had NO CLUE what he was really all about. Well it's easy to see he is really all about HIM, and nothing else. He doesn;t care about you or I, he cares about those people who can help him reach higher office.

It's a disgrace what he's done to Fall River... All he's done is lied, broken promises, acted like a child getting even, and NOW, is willing to throw in with the likes of that crook from RI, Baccari.

He's fired people without having a single notion of how to fill those jobs with qualified people, only disposable people he'll be able to cast blame on....Shameful, disgraceful stuff that is going to fall back on us all.

And the gaming crap...typical and oh so historically correwct, trying to buck the trend and doing precisely the thing, enter the worst possible venture, which is haeded for failure. God help Fall River...because this phony and his "don't be negative" moronic cretins cannot.

The casino/biopark in Freetown transaction is going to be interesting.

Joan Menard and Jim Karam held a "private fundraiser at the Venus the week (ending) 7/31/10 for $250 a ticket to buy support for their pet projects and of course Joans retirement.

hmm look at the coincidence of who just happened to send a check for $250/$500 that week besides Baccari who the city will buy the land from:

Same names always involved in city
"development" transactions:

It's also nice to see that the 8% paycut didn't affect the city of Fall River staff:

Actually, I recommend reading the articles. That way, your blog followers will get the whole story. Like how the casino in Bethlehem, PA will still employ 780 workers. Like how they're about to break ground for a new hotel and that will employ 350 construction workers. Like how the addition of table games in the near future will lead to 400 new hires. I think Fall Riverites would like those jobs here. So, "Sham", people should read the whole story and not trust your headline ruse.

Yeah maybe you should read the wall st journal today too....

MGM Resorts International's second-quarter loss widened sharply as the casino company posted a $1.12 billion write-down on its $8.5 billion City Center resort in Las Vegas, though more signs of stabilizing demand appeared.

Yes, read the articles everyone - because the articles are totally different than their headlines indicate...because newspapers are always doing that to trick people.

The article anon above mentions discusses the layoffs, the downturn in the economy, the difficulties of opening a casino in a down economy, etc. etc. How long before 80 more people lose their jobs? The casino economy is not getting any better.

p.s. Ingenious pun using the first syllable of shamrock...really quite brilliant.

DeLeo: Deal on gambling 'doubtful' this year.

They can lay off a hundred here or there but if they still employee hundreds or thousands that is a deal most people in Fall River are going to take any day of the week.

I understand the whole casino issue has generated a lot of negativity for Will Flanagan on these blogs but who do you think is going to run against him? That actually stands a chance of winning that is? Who you gonna put up against him? Joe Camara? Linda Pereira? Brad Kilby? LOL. I don't care for everything Flanagan has done but be careful what you wish for because things could always get worse. Does anyone see things getting better with Joe Camara for Mayor? I see a lot more doom and gloom under that scenario moreso then anything Flanagan could inflict.

As little substance as Flanagan offered in his campaign and is offering now it isn't like there is some magic politician waiting in the wings that has some level of intelligence and brilliance not possessed by Flanagan or any other current elected official. Let's face it, who have we elected to lead us that is intelligent in any sense of the word in the mayor's office, council or school committee? I don't see anyone better out there and that makes me feel depressed about our city that only dumb people run for office and the dumbest of the dumb end up finishing the highest on the ballot like Flanagan or Leo Pelletier and I could go on.......
