B.S.

It is pure bullshit that when Will Flanagan pulled the YMCA funding for 42 low income units, Flanagan gave a chunk of that money to E.A. Fish/Winn's Wampanoag Mills low income development in the city.

The Y currently has 13 units with up to 4 people each for a max of 52 residents (48 are currently in there). The Y proposal is for 42, 1 person units. This means the Y is decreasing the number of low income residents there.

The Wampanoag Mill project has 97 NEW low income, multi person units. The Y project is decreasing low income units by 10....how can the administration say that they are against MORE low income housing downtown...this is less, and basic math.

Will Flanagan opted to support a large low income project by a company that has made millions on low income housing developments in this city. Will Flanagan pulled the funding from the non-profit organization where I learned to swim, that offers housing to the homeless, that has been an amazing community partner.

Facts about the Y project:
The neighborhood association supports it
They don't allow overnight guests
No alcohol is allowed
Cori checks are done
Money was also going to be used to install sprinklers in the building
Money was also allocated for handicap accessibility improvements

I watched the meeting tonight on this issue. What stood out to me is toward the end when they talked about income levels. They said 11 units would be for people making like $15,000. I guess these are the poor people that nobody wants but it seems that they are already at the Y and the Y is in fact a good landlord and not a slum lord so there's probably no issues with these people.

It then came out that all the rest of the units which is 31 units are going to be available to people making 25 thousand to 30 thousand. They said the average wage in Fall River is something like 28 thousand. It looks like they are trying to help working people in Fall River but I guess according to Flanagan if you only make between 25 and 30 thousand you are a loser who doesn't belong anywhere near the downtown attempting to spend your paltry pay.

Isn't it ironic they are big campaign backers and they were bidding on durfee tech.

This mayor takes "stands" on issues for the photo op.

He takes a stand against low income housing yet funds additional low income housing?

Wait until you see the entire list of who received the money diverted from the YMCA project, EA Fish is just one of many.

The Chamber of Commerce's show on WSAR today is going to discuss who got the money with Council President Joe Camara. Should be interesting.

Should be interesting? Maybe if it was someone other than Joe Justice it would be. I predict nothing will be learned from this. The Director of the Chamber is a piece of work too, I'm not a fan of Flanagan but his sucking up to Joe Camara on a regular basis means he and the Chamber are going to be on the wrong side of a lot of issues.

It is already well known what side of the issues flanagan is on.

It is also well known who is going to receive the 1.5 million in funding that was pulled from the YMCA, The info is public information and I'm sure the 6th floor is trying to cover up exactly who is going to be on that list.

too late the information has already been given out.

I totally missed the radio segment. Did they say who got the money?

Flanagan is on the wrong side of the YMCA issue and Joe Camara in this case is on the right side, a side he is not on too often. But I do get worried when WSAR or the Chamber of Commerce or anyone presents Joe Camara as the alternative to Will Flanagan. Are they setting him up for a mayoral run? Are my choices going to be Flanagan or Camara? That's a wicked scary thought because no matter which one you pick no one wins.

They didn't announce the names.

Camara isn't running but there are others not on the current council that are .

Flanagan has made a BIG mistake pulling this funding. He will regret it.

Kilby for Mayor!!

Eric should run!!

Maybe we need to go back to the pre-bob/will days and get some of the previous candidates to run again.... hindsight is 20/20 based on the last 2 elections.

Do you really expect anything else from the dumb & greedy fuckers that run this city?

Here is a simple exercise in logic - one that has helped this doomed soul acquire a new found grip on dealing with life in Fall River...

First, when confronted with any type of project or goal that relates to the best interest of the city, assume that there are MULTITUDES of greedy & selfish rat bastards (some of whom populate our city council and various give-away do-nothing positions) who stand to make boatloads of dinheiro when the exact opposite (and naturally less palatable) option is enacted.

Now you will have acheived an optimal ZEN-like state of mind and everything will seem much clearer.

You're welcome.

Shamrock, Costa stated that attorney assads position was advertised and the city council should have seen it in the budget regardless that they changed his status from vendor to part time employee with benefits.

What does the School Committee looking like morons in front of several other morons on the City Clowncil have to do with the topic of the blog post, which was the YMCA? Relevance fail!

The mayor may not have stopped funding to the Wamponoag development, but he was not part of the initial funding, as that was in place before he took office.

They also claim that 31 units will be available for those making between 25 and 30 thousand. They also said those 31 units were for people making 80% of the median income which at $28,000 would be less than $24,000. Which is it?
