No Take Backs

In November 2008, the School Committee voted to turn over 13 unused buildings to the city. This vote put the buildings in the hands of the City Council. Since then the Council has been paying the utilities on all of these buildings.

Given the poor decisions of the RDA and FROED over the 64 Durfee Street issue, several of the councilors have since expressed their refusal to turn any of these buildings to the RDA. Now, all of a sudden, the school committee, lead by Bob Correia, doesn't want to turn the buildings over....but they already did! Shouldn't the school committee know the old school rule of 'no take backs.'

Why are the administration and the school committee refusing to turn over the buildings that already belong to the city council. Is the Mayor afraid that without the help of the RDA/FROED that the buildings aren't going to get into the hands of his pals?

It is suspicious that now, after 20 years as the chair of the real estate committee, Leo Pelletier was replaced by, of all people, Pat Casey, a proud do-er of the Mayor's bidding.

Great suggestion on the HN site-
we need to start making our elected officials accountable to the voters and tax paying citizens of Fall River:

I implore each and everyone to contact EVERY member of the City Council. Let them know that you are demanding that they put aside ego's and do what's right for the citizens of Fall River. The police and fire layoffs are of the upmost importance. This should be a no brainer, however, some of them seem to need a push in the right direction.

This is the generic telephone number of the City Council at Government Center: 508-324-2232.

These are the telephone numbers for each individual. This information is found at: http://wingstv.com/fall_river_candidates.htm

Joseph Camara ~ 508-674-4361
Pat Casey ~ 508-676-8004
Steve Camara ~ 508-678-1463
Ray Hague ~ 508-673-0043
Thomas Kozak ~ 508-677-2123
Leo Pelletier ~ 508-678-0209
Linda Pereira ~ 508-678-3506
Cathy Ann Viveiros ~ 508-674-5000
Michael Lund ~ 508-994-3728

I spoke with Joan Menard's office yesterday. The office stated that when stimulus money comes into Fall River that the City Council would be the ones that citizens had to watch to insure that any stimulus monies were being spend in appropriate ways. ie. getting back our public safety officers.

We all need to be proactive and not just sit back and complain. Make phone calls, emails, visits to the council meetings. Let the city leaders know what you expect and demand.

Silly, silly Shamrock.

Don't you realize that King Boob, oops, I mean Bob, can do whatever he likes and nobody on this planet, or God himself, has the right to question that?

So what does everyone think of Bob Jr. Who said old school style political hacks had to be in their 70s. Looks like Bob is growing a whole new generation.

Public RFP Oversight-Overhaul-Overseers Committee needed NOW...

In light of the "64 Durfee Street" RFP award to Peabody Construction and the highlights of recent letters to the editor, we as concerned taxpayers, with City Council sponsorship, should take action to create a committee to become part of local government, its quasi-private agencies and its economic development / redevelopment authorities process to keep the public informed on future RFP processes.

We must move forward with a much needed public RFP oversight committee and reform the black hole of RFP construction awards. The committee must help map the unwritten course many RFP's seem to sail?

I will help in any committee that is willing to take this on and prepare a working document to support the true validity of awarding of RFP's on city owned buildings.

This sub-committee could be a task force for the City Council's Real Estate Committee once properties such as older school buildings are transferred to the same.

Does this make sense? Any takers...
