And it's only the beginning of the "SHAKE UP" !!!!!!!

I hope so, anon. I want to make Correia and his cronies squirm.

How is it a "Shake Up" if the incumbent won the election ?

Don't worry just jenn, Correia is squirming, he lost not 1 but 2 races, Linda lost for State Rep and his boy John O'Neil lost for Probate. The Correia/Carlton/Lambert machine is looking a bit weak but I'm sure after they all stop pointing fingers and blaming one another for the losses they will regroup in time for 2009 to try to make sure that no one progressive gets elected to the mayor's office or city council. Even Lambert who practically handed the keys to his campaign organization over to Bob Correia last year was backing Sullivan this time around despite the fact that many of his former supporters remain in Correia's camp.

O'neil won the city of Fall River. He lost the elction because he lost big in the New Bedford area and he also lost in Taunton and Attleboro. I don't think Coreira has an organization in any of those 3 communities. So the connection between O'Neil loosing and Coreira somehow being week is a stretch.

Wow! Someone is super sensitive about O'Neil losing, lol.

You mean Mayor Correia couldn't turn out the vote for O'Neil in Fall River after all? Don't get me wrong because O'Neil won Fall River easily, 4,000 votes or so is probably about the same number of votes that Correia got in his primary for mayor last year. You would just think that the mayor's power would've grown and not stayed the same or weakened, 21% turnout is pretty weak, that isn't exactly turning out the troops.

Linda Perreira did not get state rep and the SHAKE UP is on the way,
she will also be out of the city council!!!

Anon 10:50 you obviously do not follow local politics very closely if you think Ed Lambert's organization backed Bob C for Mayor. Most of Lambert's group went to Whitty in the primary including John O'Neil. They may have gone to Correia in the final. This does not make them dedicated soldiers. John O'Neil ran one hell of a campaign but had to split the vote with another Fall River candidate.

I posted about the O'neil thing and am not the least bit sensitive about his loss, frankly I could care less who the Register of Probate is. I was simply pointing out that briging up this race as a way to show the mayor is somehow weak doesn't make much sense if you consider the fact that O'neil actually won in Fall River. Had the mayor backed hm and he lost Fall River then you would have a story.

true, it would have been a different outcome if there were only two candidates.

Think Sullivan will have the decency to wait until he at least gets sworn into the term he was just elected to serve before he announces a run for the mayor's office, unlike last time. Out of respect for the people in his district who don't live in Fall River? Would be nice.

Anyone that is saying Ed Lambert didn't back Bob Correia for Mayor isn't paying attention and probably didn't attend this year's Democratic City Committee meeting. Guess what? There were hundreds of people there, mostly all Ed Lambert's old soldiers and they all were supporting Bob Correia's slate of candidates including Ed Lambert's family who wouldn't allow anyone to get on the Ward 6 committe unless they backed Bob Correia. I should know since I was there and couldn't get voted on since I wouldn't support Bob's cronies. It was a story the Herald News failed to cover. Sure Ed Lambert is backing Sullivan now but only because Correia told the truth about his mishandling the budget. Ed backed Bob, Ed got his job at UMass in return, Bob gob Ed's campaign organization and since he didn't need Ed anymore at that point he stabbed him in the back. Now Ed is trying to suck up to Sullivan. Politics in this city is disgusting!

Do you think there was any chance that Ed Lambert was going to step down while Bill Whitty was still in the mayor's race? That was part of his deal with Bob Correia, that he'd better not step down early as long as Bill Whitty was still in the race or no job for him at UMass. Whitty was so dumb and couldn't figure it out that he got screwed that he ended up backing Bob in the final. Do you think it is a coincidence that Ed stepped down in October right after Whitty was bounced out in September? Duh! Start thinking for yourselves and put 2 and 2 together. I did and I came up with 4.

I believe this is called politics and the shame of it is that everyone when their group is in control wants to stay in control. This is not unique to Lambert or Correia. It takes place in every state, city and town. It is what you do with the power that is important.

I agree that Lambert and Correia aren't unique at all, but this doesn't take place in every single city, state or town. In some places they actually elect unique politicians who don't perpetuate this crap. Anyway it is clear that Lambert may have wanted to pass the torch to Bob but after Bob got it he used it to burn Lambert. That didn't really shock me, they are two of a kind, they will stab each other in the back but if a unique politician came along who wanted to shake up the status quo they would certainly kiss and make up and once again gang up on that person. These guys are gross.

Don't believe your logic. But instead of arguing we better all try to find a good candidate for Mayor in 2009. Or all our hopes are gone.

Start with the next election and vote out the rubber stamps, then get a new mayor. SHAKE UP.
