Can't meet deadlines or is Linda hiding something?

Having heard rumors all along that Correia was backing Linda Pereira's campaign for 6th District State Representative, I have been anxiously awaiting her campaign contributions/finance report. This report was due on 9/8/08 (7 days ago). Dave Sullivan filed his on time and it was listed on the state's campaign finance database but Linda Pereira's is not.

I just called the MA office of campaign finance in Boston and they confirmed that Linda has not filed her mandatory report yet. Unfortunately, the penalty is a mere $10 per day every day it is not filed up to $2,500.

So my question is, was this just an oversight? Did Linda just forget to file mandatory paperwork (not a good sign)? OR Are there contributors that she doesn't want the voters to know about until after the election? For example did Correia campaign contributor Jay Cashman (of Weavers Cove fame) also contribute to Linda's campaign?

These are things I want to know but clearly she is willing to pay the $10 a day fine to keep the secret.

Shamrock check out leftys blog too,
I called as well they referred me to legal counsel greg burn when pressed for further information, she should be left off the ballott for this.

I just read those comments. I'm glad other people called. A $10/day penalty is inadequate. I agree there should be a greater penalty such as a removal from the ballot.

It's a blatant tactic! Someone tried calling wsar but were hung up on too. Keep trying!!

Tony Evans is on right now...he is pretty rational unlike Barry so now might be a better time to call.

the question has been sent to the herald and wsar via email.

Did Linda also give Dave Sullivan $80 bucks? I heard that rumor and that would be pretty embarassing if she did and another reason why she might be trying to hide the report until after the election.

If Linda gave Sullivan $80 bucks then that would suggest she thought he was doing a good job, I mean why give someone money if you thought they stunk? If she gave Sullivan money in February as I've heard then what changed between then and the time she decided to run in terms of her opinion of Sullivan? Is it like people are speculating, did Correia talk her into running against Dave to not only get Dave to spend his money but also to get Linda out of John O'Neil's way?

Yes she did give sullivan $80 before she was told to run against him! Look at the website you can see any candidates finances EXCEPT Linda's !!!

ps

I don't think Oneil needs the mayor to back him on this or to get linda out of the way. maybe he was just giving her false hope that she was repayed for her previous and continued rubber stamp services!!!

I think you are giving O'Neil a little too much credit, say what you want about Linda Pereira but she has way more name recognition than John O'Neil because she has run for office many times before in Fall River. Linda probably would've beaten John at least in Fall River and if not it probably would've been too close to call. I guess we'll never know for sure because it didn't happen.

My prediction is John O'Neil wins the Probate race and Dave Sullivan wins the State Rep seat. The biggest loser in all this is gonna be Linda Pereira who allowed herself to be used and the biggest winner will be Bob Correia. Bob's boy John O'Neil wins office and Linda loses but is too dumb to realize that Bob played her and continues to give him her support as one of the sycophant six. Bob also has probably eliminated Dave Sullivan from the mayoral picture next year, Bob has a huge fundraiser that raises tons of money and Dave has fundraisers too this year but spends it on his race against Linda.

I think he has done a lousy job as Mayor but boy is King Bob really skilled at politics! Imagine if both John O'Neil and Linda Pereira win? King Bob will be dancing in the streets with his minions and puppets deployed throughout county and state government. As far as Linda goes though, win or lose for her it is clear that Correia wins and I think Correia is smart enough to have known that she was a longshot against Dave but it really didn't matter since she was an expendable pawn in the grand scheme of things.

hmm, good analysis

I see it differently. I think that David Sullivan will win. I've seen little from Linda Pereira. As for the register of probate race, I think Gina DeRossi will win because the other three are from Greater Fall River, and they will cancel each other out, whereas Ms. DeRossi is from Greater New Bedford, and they will overwhelmingly be for her.

Gina DeRossi may win for that very reason. The only problem I had with her was her website. What is her platform, what does she want to do if she is elected? Go to http://ginaderossi.com and there is basically nothing there that tells me what she would do if elected. Dave Dennis has the best site in terms of that stuff and John DeJesus at least tries. John O'Neil is in the same boat as Gina except he has even less details on his site. It would be nice if these elections focused on what the person is going to do if they get into the office that they are running for...

Puck ... Are you kidding me? What kind of arrogant person are you? I never write on these things and thought I would. It's alright for someone to have an opinion but to seriously be that arrogant. You should be ashamed of yourself!!! I don't live in her district but she would definately get my vote. It's time for a change! He's had over 10 years and what has he done. Give me a break the guy just tried to be mayor. He obviously didn't want to be state rep. anymore. Think about that!

OK Shamrck here goes, the Little i is looking into his/her crystal ball and here is the rundown. Extreme low voter turnout. Sullivan, Aguiar both win in landslide fashion 73 plus percent. Oneil loses by little to the NB contigent that is Derossi. I have spoken, no need to pick up the Herald tomorrow. The little i sees all! Good Morning Sucka's
P.S for all u political diehards, plaese do ypurself a favor and don't listen to Wsar today. margaret will forgive you. i

Puck took some artistic license with his Linda Pereira play but it is, unfortunately, based on true events. I am sick of the "poor linda" attitude going around. Linda told a racist joke, Linda breached DSS client confidentiality, Linda tailors her platform to suit her supporters wishes, Linda is also an adult and should be able to take the criticism she receives as a direct result of her actions.

The "poor linda" attitude implies that bad things are happening to her rather than the truth - that she brings bad things upon herself.

I can't believe how rude so many people are. To think most of you are probaly parents I can only pray you teach your children not to follow your example.

Friends of Linda,

Black people are parents, too, and I'm sure many of them pray daily that their children will be spared the derision of such insulting words as hers. They have done nothing to deserve her mockery. Sadly, the same connot be said for Ms. Pereira.

Not to change the subject but....I understand that 'Puck" is close to Radiofreekrod. Any idea when we will get the "Rest of the Story" ?? There hasn't been any activity on her bleog. It's getting a little strange that such an explosive story has gone so quiet. People are begining to wonder.

Jeez that's funny, I thought puck WAS radiofreekrod.

I think radiofree should hold onto all her good information until the time is really right to divulge it!!!

A few familiar faces but quite a few out of town donations, hmm must be the catholic group.

Linda Pereira lost! John O'Neil lost! That means Correia lost 2 races! Guess his organization isn't as strong as we thought!

That was hysterical Puck. :)

And don't worry. More is coming. I just moved so I had to wait until my cable modem was installed before I could resume blogging ... no conspiracy ...

only the start of the shake up!!!

Anonymous said...

anon 23:46. Don't read too much into the fact that Lina and O'neil lost as some how indicating that the mayor's organization is week. The Probate race was county wide (New Bedford, Taunton, Attleboro and all the towns in between) and O'neil dominated in Fall River, he lost that race in the other communities and that has nothing to do with the mayor. Lnda was never going to beat Sullivan in that race. She wins her council seat racking up votes in wards 1 thru 6, she has never been strong in the north end and don't
forget the district includes parts of Freetown and Berkley, again outside the reach and influence of the mayor's "organization".

Anonymous said...

Oh, I thought 30+ years as a state rep had far reaching influence.

Regardless, Oneil lost BECAUSE FALL RIVER only had a 21% showing at the polls.

Correia wanted oneil and didn't care where Linda went, she is already ripe to get kicked off the city council when the Shake Up happens.

Anonymous said...

O'neil lost because DiRossi, who lives in Dartmouth and practices law in New Bedford beat him in the New Bedford area by something like 4to 1 and she alson won in Taunton and Attelboro.

Anonymous said...

You mean Mayor Correia couldn't turn out the vote for O'Neil in Fall River after all? Don't get me wrong because O'Neil won Fall River easily, 4,000 votes or so is probably about the same number of votes that Correia got in his primary for mayor last year. You would just think that the mayor's power would've grown and not stayed the same or weakened, 21% turnout is pretty weak, that isn't exactly turning out the troops.

As far as Linda, I will give Correia the benefit of the doubt, I honestly don't know how hard he tried, I would like to think that even Correia isn't dumb enough to think that she would actually win. I think Linda was in the dark about that but obviously it was more important that she get Sullivan to spend his money then it was for her to actually win. She successfully played her role as a pawn.

Linda is the big loser, if she stayed in the Probate race she probably could've beaten O'Neil in Fall River and since she works for Sutter maybe if she tried to use some of Sam Sutter's contacts throughout the county she might have done well in the other cities and towns in Bristol County as well. Who knows, instead of Gina DeRossi we might've had Linda Pereira as the winner of the Probate race. Now that's a scary thought isn't it? Oh well, she screwed herself.

Hello Keri,

I'm delighted you enjoyed the satire. But does this mean that you're not me and I'm not you?

Good luck in your new location. Spirited, meaningful discourse on the airwaves of Fall River died with your departure.
