"Fuzzy Math"

I was listening to today's debates on WSAR just now and was taken aback by Will Flanagan's monumental misundertanding of the retirement system. He is under the errant impression that by encouraging older people to retire, we will save money on healthcare because the older person's younger replacement will require less medical care. The flaw in this plan, as Cathy Ann Viveiros had to explain to him, is that we pay for the health care of retirees. New employee getting healthcare + Retiree getting healthcare = 2 healthcare payments.

"THINK ABOUT IT"

This isn't the only thing in city government that Will is clueless about. Cathy has had to correct him time and time again.

Maybe sticking to that 'Hope and Faith' platform wasn't such a bad idea...

If Will had ever paid a property tax bill, he might have known that Fall River has an education fund, that you can conveniently pay for with your taxes. His idea isn't that novel.

Actually, if I am not mistaken, you might be able to pay into the fund when you get your Excise tax. Oh well, I guess he spends too much time in Taunton.

CAV has the endorsement of the section 8 club (Tenants Association) come on there is no way I can vote for her now, I was already leaning to Will just becuase he is new, CAV has been involved for years, sorry as far as my votes they will all be for new names meaning, new to the ballot not new to the position. I know I have a fire sale mentality

I love it when people say "I just cannot vote for Cathy NOW" when you know they never had any intention of voting for her in the first place.

The city needs to join the state GIC. It's a big money saver!!

Fuzzy math?
I teach high school English. I read this sentence in the Sterile Loser. I'd flunk a sophomore who wrote this sentence.

"The state released only $4 million for fiscal 2009 in July — a decision that forced legislators to vote that previously approved money to be used to reimburse the dozens of businesses that have been waiting for months to receive checks."

This is just as good from the Sterile Snooze.

"Long said if a swine flu case is confirmed, the district won’t not reveal the schools or any specifics of the case. But she hopes it will never get to that point."

"Won't not?'' Does that mean "will?"

The problem is that several of Cathy's corrections have been proven wrong.

As far as the excise tax if Cathy has her way people wouldn't have any extra money to donate. She wants to charge higher excise tax for vehicles that weigh more, which would hurt small businesses. Plumbers, electricians, delivery people would see the cost of business rise.

Reality Check,

If the point of excise tax is to pay for the road systems that people drive on, wouldn't it make more sense to tax the heavier users more? How does the value of your car affect the amount of travel, and amount of wear you put on the road systems?

CAV's statements have not been proven wrong beyond a shadow of a doubt. That is simply rhetoric. Will won't take stands on anything, but the few things he has, he has shown his inability to understand simple facts about the city.

No one is saying that CAV is perfect. You will see me fighting many of her future decisions, I am sure. But, she at least isn't so inexperienced that she is scary.

Lack of experience vs bad experience.

Fear, how does raising the excise tax which will hurt small businesses along with the extremely high rain water tax help keep or bring business to Fall River.

I didn't say the excise tax was good for business. I just said it wasn't equitable the way it is.

You obviously have no understanding of Municipal finance. If you offer early retirement. You save money! I hope after Will wins we can all come together and move this city forward.
