Mayor Correia on Miller Green

"I didn't see anything wrong with it at the time, I don't see anything wrong with it now." Bob Correia

"We have Kennedy park that was rededicated, by the way, because it wasn't Kennedy park all the time, it was dedicated again to a fallen president" Bob Correia

Bob, truthfully - Kennedy park used to be named "South Park." The city didn't rob the South family honor by renaming it Kennedy Park. Mr. South did not die for his country. In fact there is no Mr. South - the park was named after a direction, so your example is ridiculous.

In response to the Casey/Correia argument that their actions were justified because the square looks better now and that the square was so horrible before, etc:

(thanks to bigsam27 for the picture)

I realize it is from a distance but the square looks decent to me, albeit humble as Corporal Miller's plaque indicates.

The Mayor's examples are so ridiculous. Of course you can have additional memorials at Kennedy Park, because the park is so large that the memorials don't affect the honor of the park. Same for Heritage Park.

Miller Square is very small. Barry Richard mumbles something about there is room at the square. The Cpl. Miller Square was dedicated to him and to all of South End veterans of WWII. Can't they have this property as a memorial for their service?

Granted the property looks better now, but that was the responsibility of DPW to maintain it. By their own acknowledgment the property was unkempt. Now, the administration's line is that the memorial to McGovern was okay because it looks better.

Honestly, does he not get it?

Now wait a darn minute. Correia has a valid point. Prior to being named Kennedy Park, it was named after a hit cartoon, "South Park". The leaders of Fall River many years ago before the invention of movies, T.V. etc. knew that there would be this great cartoon, "South Park". They had the vision and leadership and saw to it that we would be ahead of the curve.

Then years later a bunch of turkeys take the name "South Park" away and name it after a dead president.

Just think, if the city had left it as "South Park" we could have made millions by suing the creators of the cartoon "South Park".

They knew it would become this great hit and they had prepared for it.

The above was a Correiaism, brought to you by "Knuckle Head International" a subsidiary of "Duh, I don't Know Corportaion" who is wholly owned by "My Way No Matter How Stupid LTD".

Shamrock,

Thank you for making yet another point as to why this is so wrong.

It would also be interesting to see Pat Casey video of her presentation ( and resons) to the city council explaining why miller's memorial should be moved, or was that ommitted?

Then watch Paul Solomon's request to the council to have the new brightman street bridge renamed for 2 veterans, where in full disclosure he offers that the original bridge named after brighman will remain and he has heard of others being considered. One being by Joan Menard- naming the bridge after chick marchand who owned somerset lodge.

It would be an interesting comparison!!!

Maybe the mayuh or pat casey looked out their window and said
" I can see a weed growing on miller green/square from my backyard "let's call the mcgoverns to give us some money to fix it.

so...when is the big "demonstration?'

Anonymous said...

when the mayor goes on wsar again to defend his many poor choices,
when is that?

Anon 12:31 -
Who indicated there would be a "demonstration?" I am interpreting your quotation marks to mean you are quoting someone and since I didn't say there would be a demonstration, your question is erroneously directed.

I did indicate that there will be a memorial to a fallen soldier, Corporal Miller, at a date to be announced.

Anyone who would like to be involved in a memorial to David Miller, please contact me at Jason (at) fallrivershow.com if you are sincere.

There are a lot of things going on with this behind the scenes that you will never see. But I guarantee you there is action happening here. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me, and we can discuss.

Otherwise, shut up.

Thank you.

Jason,

Don't feel compelled to even answer such obvious antagonistic
statements. Obviously this person or persons has nothing to contribute and is just "acting" out.

Charlotte, your point is wise and well-made but I still thank you, Shamrock and Jason, for responding to anonymous 12:31 who has been so fixated on finding fault with your exposé of this tragedy that he has missed the storm that is swirling around him.

For 3 WEEKS — since Nov. 18, when Shamrock first shed light on Correia’s act of desecration — this story has been making news. That’s a long time in this town, especially since the school department farce was being performed at the same time.

Did anonymous not read the long, in depth article in the HN, with photos, or the HN’s editorial decrying this act? And, along with at least 2 other blogs picking up the story, are the multitude of comments, on the blogs and in the HN, by irate citizens completely opposed to this Correia/Casey travesty.

Was anonymous unaware that, as a result of his own foolish action, the mayor was forced to defend himself both on the air and in print?

I don’t think this story is over yet...not by a long shot.

But, that’s OK, anonymous. You just keep your head buried in the sand and maybe the storm won’t overtake you or whoever it is you think you need to defend.

Interesting comments posted on the Herald News site :

Report AbuseThis was all manufactured by a blogger (SHAMrock) who has nothing better to do than play 'gotcha' then urge readers of that crappy blog (which local blogs aren't?) to email the City Editor to cover the story. Evidently the Editors are all too willing to use blogger talking points in their editorials. So now we have the editorial page of the HN and the bloggers who have become laughing stocks of the city. It will only get worse now that the former female talk show host who marginalized herself on radio proceeds to do it online. No wonder the Somerset PD thinks she's a whacko!

The more the mayor's people protest, the more obvious it is that Shamrock has really caused a disturbance on the 6th floor.

The reason this story is being told and retold is that it transcends politics. It is about what is right and what is wrong. No amount of money or power or lame excuses can erase that simple truth.

There is only one way to fix this, truthteller/anonymous. The mayor must humble himself, swallow his pride, then apologize and return Miller Square to its rightful honorees. Then, maybe - MAYBE - all the mothers and fathers, wives and husbands, sons and daughters, of the brave souls who fight and die on foreign soil - so we don't have to, - MAYBE - will forgive him.

It is astounding to me that Barry Richard, the self-proclaimed hard hitting take-no-prisoners tough interviewer, is like melted butter in the hands of the mayor. If Lambert was doing some of the things Correia is doing, like re-naming the schools etc, Barry would be calling for his head. Don't believe the WSAR hype. They don't dig, they don't question, they don't ask, don't tell. That goes for Herren too. My guess is that they have their orders and they are abiding by them.

How is it so easy that words like "sinnester (sp?) plot was schemed" come so easily out of the Mayor's mouth, in his radio interview? It must be his "positivicous" side. Scary.

Anonymous said...

Oops---I meant "positivicious," a term used by the Mayor early on in his dictatorship---I mean term.

are you sure it wasn't george w talking?!

Last Sunday, on Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day, hundreds of veterans and others rallied in the city's South End to protest the renaming of a square dedicated to a World War II hero.

Ohhh...wait a minute...that didn't happen

Thanks Anon for checking up on us every day and the continued suggestions and keeping this issue at the forefront!

Shamrock, national news organizations, the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and Vet associations should be informed about how our mayor remembers men killed in action.

I have done my part, now others should send emails to every news organization and Vet assc that they can find.

Tom,

It might be a good idea to share the email addresses with us to contact them as well !
