Mayor Will Flanagan finally filed his campaign finance report and it looks like he may have to return thousands of dollars. Massachusetts law limits the amount of money an individual can donate to a campaign. That limit is $500 per calendar year.
Despite the $500 maximum, the following campaign contributions were reported by Flanagan in the 2010 calendar year:
James P. Antonio $600
Todd Benevides $725
Brian Bishop $650
Anthony Cordeiro $550
Laurenio Couto $1000
Emilio Estacio $850
Carl Garcia $650
Fernando Garcia $650
Loretta George $1425
Alan S. Johnson $1000
James Karam $650
Robert Karam $700
Deborah Kenney $950
Mark Levin $850
Gilbert Lopes, Jr. $800
Mario Lucciola $600
Wayne Rego $1000
Kenneth R. Rezendes $1100
Daniel Silvia $600
Dennis D. Silvia $600
Robert Smith $550
Is this a case of careless accounting by the Flanagan campaign, ignorance of the law, or perhaps just intentional disregard?

I see theat Wayne Rego donated $1000.00. Has he paid the city back yet for his trips to the Azores?
How can a maintenance worker (Emilio Estacio)
at the Housing Authority afford to donate $950.00. His wife also and son also donated $500.00 each. That is $1950.00 from one family alone. Something sounds fishy here. Did that money come from them, or were they used to funnel money for other people?
Goes to show you that the mayor doesn't know Jack about finances. No wonder the city is broke.
who is flanagan's campaign "treasurer" ??
Shamrock you are quickly losing cred in the community.
How can one lose credibility when they speak the truth?
And, in response to the question: who is flangan's campaign "treasurer"?? Hopefully, not Perry Long!! That would be too funny.
@anon 13:46 - Not Perry Long, it is Patrick Long.
@anon 15:42 - Thank you for indicating I had "cred" in the community. I am not sure how citing fact and law, then linking to that evidence diminishes my "cred." Feel free to explain, but really I have a pretty strong feeling that your comment was just a pathetic attempt to steer the conversation away from the fact that the Flanagan Campaign took in nearly $6,000 that was violative of MA campaign finance law.
If there aren't refunds listed in the expenditure part of his report then yes there is a problem. If those people were refunded then it's a non-issue. People give money throughout the year and campaigns have to keep a running total of who gives and how much. If people go over the $500 mark their money is supposed to be refunded.
He only raised $100,00ish this whole year? Considering that Flanagan's buddy Ed Lambert used to raise like 4,5 or 6 hundred thousand and Bob Correia like 3 hundred thousand I would think some of the political people looking at this report would take this as a sign that Flanagan is vulnerable this election season. He doesn't seem to be very good at raising money. Once you deduct all the money he has to give back to the people that gave over $500 it will be even less.
well if he did refund the money he didn't report that either. It should be in the full report, shamrock ( who has plenty of cred) posted a link.
Charlotte
No refunds to these people are listed in his end of year report and there should be. Looks like the Office of Campaign and Political Finance is going to have to investigate.
They will just send his campaign a letter telling them that they need to make refunds. If he makes the refunds in a timely fashion then there won't be any big stink made over it.
hmmm....can't say i'm surprised to see many names from people employed by the City of Fall River, especially those who didn't take the pay cut! We should compare and make a list of who had to take a cut and who didn't based on who contributed to the mayors campaign. Could Willy be repaying his friends for their contribution by making sure their wallets stay a bit fatter??? I'm sure a lot of people on this list are getting my the donation maximum by donating under their spouses names.
That is a great idea but you should also list those that were paid for "favors" like votes on the city council and redevelopment authority.
Bigelow starts his new job soon thanks to the mayor...for his deciding vote on the city council president/vp.
What's Bigelow's new job?
Bigelow is going to be teaching for the Taunton School Dept. Supposedly starting this month.
You see he needed the city council seat for the health benefits. He took the vote to put Lund and Mitchell in the Prez/VP seats for Flanagan. Flanagan returned the favor in Taunton.
and Lunds worries will also disappear, the back taxes owed that the city didn't collect and will now have to borrow money.
The DEP and marina lawsuites.
There is lund fron and center herald news, watch it dissappear. Of course they don't mention all $$ he owes the city.
Bigelow is going to be teaching?
How did he pass the CORI? Didn't he plead guilty?
I will never vote for Flanagan (again). I voted only because CAV is such a moron and originally voted for Bob Correia.
I will vote for anyone who vows to eliminate Ken Fiola's job.
Keep it real!
I'm with you, Ka$shMan. Whoever gets rid of Fiola will probably have my vote.
And, yeah, how DID Bigelow pass a CORI check? He pleaded to sufficient facts to convict.
I would believe some within the political persons searching at this record would consider this like a indicator that Flanagan is vulnerable this election season.
