Say it ain't so

Let the hackery continue....

Word on the street says outgoing mayor, Bob Correia, is seeking a job in the court system. I have no doubt he will happily suck off the teet of taxpayers until the day he dies (I mean "continue to dedicate his life to public service"). Times are tough and there is currently a hiring freeze in the MA court system. The hiring freeze would make any job Bob Correia is given, that much more egregious. I would not be surprised if he already has a position lined up. He mentioned he would be taking time off in January. Time off from what? Time off before starting his new state position?

BOB UMASS

That's funny. I made a joke earlier that he can go teach kangaroo court at UMass Law

Carlton Viveiros went to the court system and Ed Lambert went to UMass. A good hack never retires let alone retire to *gasp* the dreaded private sector where people actually have to work for their paycheck. That's not to say that everyone in government in a lazy hack but if the shoe fits then Bob and Ed will be wearing it.

Fall River announces layoffs, salary cuts

01:00 AM EST on Tuesday, March 3, 2009

FALL RIVER –– The city is laying off 149 unionized workers and cutting the salaries of top administrators and other nonunion employees to close a projected $2.9-million budget deficit, Mayor Robert Correia announced yesterday.

Among those who will be laid off, the mayor said, are 20 public works employees, 53 police officers and 45 firefighters. In addition, he said, more than a dozen vacant positions will remain unfilled.

Correia said the police and firefighters’ layoffs would be effective March 13. Other, non-civil service employees to be dismissed will work through this Friday.

The layoffs were decided after unions refused to accept contract concessions, the mayor said.

But one union, the bargaining unit for city custodians, was able to avoid layoffs by agreeing to shave its members’ workweek by three hours.

“During these hard economic times, it was very important that our members did not lose their jobs,” David Lavoie, shop steward for the custodians union, Local 124 of Labor Advantage for Workers, said in a statement.

Correia also announced that he was cutting his own salary by 10 percent and the salaries of his staff by 8.57 percent. He said department heads and managerial staff would see an 8.57 percent cut through June 30 of next year.

“This is truly a difficult time for the City of Fall River,” the mayor said in a statement. “Given the options presented to us by the labor unions, we were left with no choice.

“I have been elected by the people of Fall River to guide this city through these tough times, and I will. We must all work together to see our way out of this crisis.”

I've heard from attorney friends that no one from outside of bristol County wants anything to do with the Bristol County Court System because some wierd things go on down here....if anyone at the state level is even contemplating this hogback hogwash it's the most digusting thing I've ever heard of...What in God's name could this fish-eyed fool be qualified for, aside from lunch?!

At least Will Flanagan got Jim Mathes a spot on his transition team.
Is The Herald News bought and paid for yet?

Anonymous said...

How much does the transistion team pay and how long does it last ??

I think the transition team members are volunteers. And although some are connected individuals, Will Flanagan has put some "workers" on the teams.

The transition team members are indeed volunteers.

Why do people dislike Jim Mathes? He gave up a high powered, high paid job as the head of the New Bedford Chamber of Commerce to try and make a difference with youth. I think it is admirable.

It isn't dislike...it's the conflict of interest represented by the newspaper editors live-in b/f on the mayor's transition team.
O and check out Subday's Sterile Snooze page one...a big story about how the Community Foundation f Souteastern Mass is doing so great.
Lisa Stratton is the chair of the CFSEM marketing committee.

I cancelled my ads in The Herald after 16 years, not beause of the paper's biased editor but because, every year, it was fewer readers and higher prices for ads......I have a web site for my business, facebook, myspace and I do direct mail...costs 70% less than the newspaper and brings in more customers

That's impressive. What's your website?

The radio station is a waste of money too, an even bigger waste than the newspaper. Do the web stuff and direct mail, you'll save money and get more responses.

What's your website address?

LOL... I didn't think there was really a website. Just another troll.
