Battleship on the Battleship
A friend of mine had a fantastic idea for tourism, as well as for the general promotion and awesomeness of Fall River - Host a Battleship tournament on Big Mamie!
I was pretty excited about the prospect....I was even MORE excited when I found out there is a Battleship movie in the works, based on the game (Universal Studios with director Peter Berg of Hancock). This is a great way to capitalize on free press from the Battleship movie and game.
The idea makes so much sense, Battleship Cove rents Big Mamie for events, why not allow such an event to be held on the ship. It would require a little planning on our part but it is ripe for advertising and sponsorship. The game Battleship is even owned by Hasbro who is headquartered in nearby Pawtucket, RI. Perhaps we could even have a screening of the Battleship movie at the Heritage State Park building theatre.
A few weeks ago the officials at Battleship Cove announced they were seeking a new director upon the recent resignation of their current director. Hopefully the new director and powers that be give this idea some serious thought.
I encourage everyone - the city, the Mayor Flanagan, the council, and the Battleship directors, to make this idea a reality. It could be an annual event attracting many people to Fall River. It is a golden opportunity we would be foolish to ignore.

I have to say...I like it....it is a new approach....I would say worth trying.
What about a Battleship board game where the pieces represent the actual ships that are at Battleship Cove? You could have the Joseph P. Kennedy destroyer, the submarine, etc.
what a great 1974 idea
Make sure you forward your comment to Universal and the hollywood director who are making the movie. Once you point out that it is a 1974 idea, I am sure they will stop production.
I like this idea. Fall River needs this type of thinking!
Someone should tell FROED there so on top of things!

Here's ANOTHER Sterile Snooze story where the reporter writes down whatever he is tol and doesn't ask ONE probing question
Fabulous idea. It would get a lot of press and bring in players from all over new england. Very very cool!

Oh, I would never do that. It would spoil the "merchandising tie in" with Battleship Cove and the tournament...neither of which s ever going to HAPPEN.
I just read in the HN how in New Bedford the SouthCoast Blood Bank ran a blood drive in coordination with the release of the new Twilight vampire movie.
So, that serves as an example, how a city can tie in an event with a movie premiere.
Stop playing board games and get with the times, these is a Fall River based video game for the sony play station 2, it is called Grand Theft Auto "Fall River Art" It is all about maintaining your street cred as a criminal in the Flint. The local crime bosses send you out on missions ranging from pciking up chourico and chips to carjacking, kidnapping & drug running. The is even a level where you try and fill a old police station with hay so the boss can get the insurance monaye when it burns .The more missions you complete successfully, the longer you retain and/or advance your criminal status.
Hey johnnyb I have that game for my PS and it is set in Corky Row not the Flint!
Sorry I live in the highlands so the rest of Fall River is all the same to me Flint, Corky Row same crap different toliet

No, no, no, Corky Row today is what the Flint used to be.
I will watch "Battleship" the movie only if it is as good as the "Minesweeper" film.

The game that has everyone waiting in line this holiday season is "Mill City Glockers" a fast action city thug game. And who could pass up "Vulgar Vals" similar to monopoly, you work your way around town buying up properties and renting them out and if you co players don’t have the rent? Watch out things get wild when grandpa owes you big-time.
