UPDATE:
Due to a scheduling conflict, the Miller memorial ceremony has been postponed. I will post the new date when I have it.
______________________________________________________
Thanks to some concerned veterans, there will be a memorial ceremony to honor Corporal David L. Miller at 12:00pm on Sunday Dec. 7. The memorial will be held at the square previously known as Miller Square (currently known as McGovern Square thanks to Pat Casey, Bob Correia, and others). Please come and help honor the life and remember the heroic death of Corporal Miller.
Dec. 7, 2008 is the 67th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks and is a very appropriate day for Corporal Miller's memorial. I hope many people can join us. Hopefully we can either convince the powers that be to correct their error or we can join together to right the situation on our own.

Thank you for your work on this issue. Nobody would have known.
Great work Shamrock.
still now word on the local paper picking up the story, I guess they have more interesting editorials to cover.
That sounds like action not just talk!
i'm there--how about local officials and veterans offices
Have you no shame at all Shamrock? Using this brave Vet's memory to advance your political agenda.
Have you no shame at all Mayor? Using this brave Vet's memory to advance your political agenda.
" Last night my sister and I were sitting in the den and I said to her, "I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle to keep me alive. That would be no quality of life at all, If that ever happens, just pull the plug." So she got up, unplugged my computer, and threw away my wine."
ha 22:22 that wax good! i personally have no political agenda, but see the horrible deed done at this green. Regardless of who did it, it needs to be overturned. Put poolitics aside, sometimes it's about getting it right as opposed to being right
There is no grey area on this one. What the mayor did was just plain wrong.
Shamrock,
Was the Corporal's memorial headstone re-done as well?
Should some local monument companies be contacted to see
if they would be willing to
upgrade it???
ah yes, postponed..more talk
Anon 22:36
There is definitely something wrong with you.
The fact that the veteran's groups are involved is more than talk,
not sure what action Anon 22:36
has taken on anything other than stalking the blogs, still commenting anonymously but complaining about bloggers.
Maybe Anon could explain that to us.
If the Herald had sent a reporter to the McGovern dedication and if the reporter saw the old plaque and asked even one question but....
Huhm ???
What's the new date, or is this blog just what most claim, a practice in futility theory. I for one hope not, I believe in rebuilding this man's legacy. What a shame.
If you think it futile you obviously did not see today's Herald News which finally covered this story, which was brought to you first on here. Money should be raised for a larger plaque for this hero.

1.) What is futility theory? Do you mean an exercise in futility?
Either way this blog is neither and thank you for reading.
2.) When the veterans group reschedules, you will be the first to know.
3.) Check out the Herald News article http://www.heraldnews.com/news/local_news/x1720683748/Two-memorials-one-square
Nothing will change
So...uhhh, where's the huge demonstration, the rally, the outpouring of outrage?
The Herald News editorial today certainly expressed outrage. Veterans are outraged too but they'll be expressing it at the ballot box in 2009.
