Can Someone PLEASE Investigate Joan Menard?

Not surprisingly, State Senator Joan Menard's name has come up in the Sal DiMasi/Richard Vitale indictments. From today's Boston Herald: "When the legislation hit a wall, Rainer said, Vitale sent an e-mail telling the ticket brokers to 'hang in there,' and send a $500 contribution to Menard."

Menard claims she did nothing wrong: So what gives lobbyists the impression that Joan Menard's vote can be bought? That $1000/month Cadillac ain't cheap and she needs to keep the campaign funds flowing to pay for it.

  7. this is politics, nothing new and nothing will change you are in or you are out, having a system that allows lobbing is crazy but it works for those being lobbied so it will never change, if ya don't like it move to Russa then you can have you way for a pack of cigs, and you can smoke then while you sip coffe in your local cafe.

  8. Wow, some of the stuff in that article seems pretty damning for Joan Menard. What do you want to bet that the Herald News never picks it up? They never picked up the story about her Caddy, I am sure they won't touch this. We should all send e-mails to the paper calling them out for protecting Menard. The Herald's editor is Lisa Strattan, is this a girl power thing protecting Menard or another reason? I think females get upset over corruption just as much as males, at least I know that I do. editor@heraldnews.com

Is this the same Joan Menard who is pushing up in Boston for Correia, NOT to have to pay the city's state requirement for education.

  10. Anon 00:29 -

Simmer down on the caps. Even if I were to agree with you that I don't know what is good for Fall River, I can tell you what isn't good for Fall River: What ISN'T good for Fall River, is having our State Senator named in corruption proceedings. It is quite obvious to me what that email indicated and I don't like it.

How many similar emails have gone out: "Chin up Jay Cashman, things will turn around in your sale of Weaver's Cove...and send Joan Menard $500." OR "Don't despair my BFI landfill friends, I sense an expansion in your future...and send Joan Menard $500."

Enlighten me; what has Joan Menard done for Fall River? Can you answer this question or are you a hit and run "blogs are dumb" commenter?

  12. Conflict of Interest
The Conflict of Interest Law regulates the conduct of all state, county and municipal employees and volunteers, whether paid or unpaid, full or part-time, intermittent or temporary. General Law chapter 268A governs what public officials and employees may do on the job, what they may do after hours, or on the side, and what they may do after they leave public service.

The State Ethics Commission oversees the law, which is enacted as Massachusetts General Law Chapter 268A. The Commission posts decisions and guidelines about the state's conflict of interest law. Municipal officials, whether appointed or elected, and state and municipal employees should follow the Guidelines for Public Officials and Public Employees. Some of the most frequent allegations we have heard about relate to these four guidelines (excerpted from the Commission's website):

You may not ask for or accept anything (regardless of its value), if it is offered in exchange for your agreeing to perform or not perform an official act.

You may not ask for or accept anything worth $50 or more from anyone with whom you have official dealings.

You may not hire, promote, supervise, or otherwise participate in the employment of your immediate family or your spouse's immediate family.

You may not take any type of official action that will affect the financial interests of your immediate family or your spouse's immediate family. For instance, you may not participate in licensing or inspection processes involving a family member's business.

You may not take any official action affecting your own financial interest, or the financial interest of a business partner, private employer, or any organization for which you serve as an officer, director or trustee.

    Yeah that should work! NOT!
Menard is the one who gets the state funding for SMILES, the fake mentoring program run by JimMathes, Lisa Strattan's boyfriend. State money flows into Mathes' pockets and Strattan makes sure the Sterile Snooze looks the other way on Menard. I work n the Fall River schools. The SMILES program is useless and costs A LOT of taxpayer money

I just don't like seeing Menard buy off The Herald by getting money for Strattan's b/f. The Sterile Snooze might investigate Menard without this bribe

  17. That's why I stopped advertising in The Herald because the paper is no longer relevant in Fall River...all they do for their advertisers is deliver an audience of old retired sweat shop workers with no money

Rainer also discussed several meetings between Vitale and Rep. Thomas Petrolati (D-Springfield),who was DiMasi’s Speaker-Pro-Tem. “There were a series of hand-delivered e-mail on the ticketing legislation,” Rainer said.

Vitale and Petrolati met about the legislation in a cafeteria at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and a ticket broker was given Petrolati’s cell number during a pivotal point in the bill’s progress, Rainer said.

When the legislation hit a wall, Rainer said, Vitale sent an e-mail telling the ticket brokers to “hang in there,” and send a $500 contribution to Menard

  20. Interesting Vitale was connected to fish (peabody properties)

Vitale, 63, has devoted himself to the community, serving for the last eight years on the board of directors at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, along with philanthropist Myra Kraft, construction magnate John F. Fish, and Richard A. Voke, former majority leader of the Massachusetts House, among others.

  21. Did anyone bother to check what happened to the legislation that Vitale was supposed to "warm the legislation up too" No i dont think so. Or did anyone check to see how the vote was cast by sen Menard? Bloggers = so useless in today's society.
