please try to be at least a little objective shamrock..cslling miozza a superhero??
ReplyDeleteThere isnt one winner in the bunch!!
ReplyDeleteTo Anon 1:17
ReplyDeleteIf there is not one winner in the bunch, maybe you should throw your hat in the ring.
Some of the names mentioned I would never vote for others I would. But to knock then down is soooo Fall River. At least they are running.
WHAT NO LEFTY FOR MAYOR...THE BEST OF ALL POSSIBLE CANDIDATES...THE FALL RIVER BLOGGING COMMUNITY NEEDS TO GET HIM ON THE BALLOT
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous 00:36:
ReplyDeleteMaybe you, like Leo, have been in a deep sleep for the last 6 years regarding LNG, so to clarify--yes, Mike Miozza is an LNG superhero. We would be privileged to have him bring his pro-Fall River activism to the City Council and anyone who doesn't recognize that is terribly misguided, to say the least.
To Anonymous 1:17
I recently had a chance to talk with Don Berube and found him to be intelligent, wise, forward-thinking, and committed to bringing life back to this city. He even has actual ideas and plans! If those are qualities one values, then this man is definitely worth keeping an eye on. (Actually, I would vote for him right now, knowing nothing else about him, as, even with my limited knowledge, I swear he'd be better than at least 7 of the current councilors.)
Anon 00:36 - Don't get me wrong, I would be proud to vote for Miozza again, if he ran, but my adjective was slightly exaggerated since I have yet to see Miozza fly or stop a moving train. Would you prefer the term "crusader" or "champion" against LNG? Perhaps those terms are more accurate or to your liking. Also, I even found something positive to say about Ron Cabral, that is pretty objective. If is was not for the Coalition for the Responsible Siting of LNG, concerned citizens, and community organizers like Miozza, I have no doubt we would have LNG at Weaver's Cover right now - take that as you will.
ReplyDeleteAnon 1:17
There are some dynamic people on that list and I hope a few of them win. If there aren't winners on that list then it is the fault of ignorant voters and not for lack of some viable candidates.
Shamrock,
ReplyDeleteI HAVE seen him stop a moving train. Quite impressive actually!
LOL.
Personally, I'd like to see Tom Paine run for office. He (or she) appears to be knowledgeable and to have vision. Oh, and lots of "common sense" to boot.
ReplyDeleteAnyone from 2007 making a comeback for mayor or city council or school committee? Alves? Whitty? Kilby? Poulin?
ReplyDeleteall losers
ReplyDeleteThere isn't a winner in the bunch!!
ReplyDeleteDo you mean they can't win or don't deserve to? Miozza and Dennis are two men who are educated, and have been active in the community. Most places that would be considered a plus.
Jefferson I agree, Tom Paine does have the knowledge, vision and common sense. Unfortunately, those qualities along with those of the two men mentioned above are not what some voters of Fall River are looking for.
Alves and Whitty are out of town and retired. I think it is time for poulin and kilby to reconsider another mayoral run. We are well beyond the argument that bob can't be beat and just because they lost the last time means nothing. Hindsight is 20/20. Bob hoodwinked many voters and has lost support for another run.
ReplyDeleteTake a look at his website
electbobmayor.com and tell us what on his list has been accomplished???
Reality Check tell us what the voters are looking for please.
ReplyDeleteShamrock, thank you for posting my name as well as the names of the other candidates. It will be a crowded field again this year and candidates will find it difficult to get their messages out to the people. Forums like this one can help.
ReplyDeleteIf any person commenting on this site would like to ask me a question or get to know more about me as a candidate, please feel free to email me at boulayj@comcast.net. I will do my best to reply to you in a timely manner. I will also answer questions posted here if Shamrock approves of using the site that way.
I was at the state of the city address. I heard someone ask Kilby in the lobby if he was running for mayor and he said no but that he was considering running for city council.
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating, Mr. Boulay. It is nice to see a candidate reading the blogs. Please feel free to answer any questions/comments on this forum.
ReplyDeletejamie, you are good guy. don't get corrupted by scamrock and his underachieving groupies
ReplyDeletejamie has my vote and I thank Shamrock for providing a forum that he can answer our questions on. Hopefully more candidates will take advantage of this opportunity to get their message out.
ReplyDeleteHurricane was at flaunt..and yes the girl was hot.

ReplyDeleteAnonymous 12:18, If you understood what I was saying, you would know I was referring to Anon 1:17's comment. I made it perfectly clear that the majority of people in Fall River continually disregard candidates who are educated, active in the community, have vision, and common sense. What the majority of voters are looking for when they vote for some of these cement heads, I have no clue.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the clarification Reality Check, that makes sense now.
ReplyDeleteif jamie relies on this forum he will get the same 10 people on here everyday for sure
ReplyDeleteHerren will you get a clue on the caps lock key- it's ok to use it and not type in caps. It does not say COPS LOCK go ahead try it for a change.
ReplyDeleteThere are definately more than 10 readers on this blog! Some are lurkers like myself... Mr. Jamie Boulay, please create a web site with more information, we bloggers will take notice and so will the other forums, paper and radio. :0)

ReplyDeletefor Correia:
A recent study titled "Leader Emergence: The Case of the Narcissistic Leader" describes how narcissists have skills and qualities—confidence, extraversion, a desire for power—that propel them into leadership roles but that when true narcissists are in charge, other aspects of their makeup—a feeling the rules don't apply to them, a need for constant stroking—can have "disastrous consequences." Yes, we're talking about you, former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. After Blagojevich was caught on tape trying to sell a Senate seat, he reveled in the opportunity to appear on talk shows, making the case that he himself was a victim—self-pity being a favorite narcissist refuge.
A line from a New York Times profile of him is as trenchant a description of narcissism as is found in most psychology textbooks: "[He] is unapologetically late to almost everything, and can treat employees with disdain, cursing and erupting in fury for failings as mundane as neglecting to have at hand at all times his preferred black Paul Mitchell hairbrush." There it all is: the sense that other people don't matter, the belief others are instruments for the narcissist's use, the self-admiration.

I personally hope that the voters of Fall River take some time to learn about Jamie Boulay and Mike Miozza. They would be great additions to the City Council ...
ReplyDeleteHate to be negative but need to put things in perspective. Miozza is a great candidate (and I will vote for him again), but a correspondence school-PHD is not particularly impressive. Neither is Dave Dennis' law degree from a non-ABA-accredited law school. I guess our standards for describing someone as "educated" are pretty low here in Fall River.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna go out on a limb here and say any PhD still trumps a GED or a Durfee HS diploma. As for a law degree from SNESL, all Mass. law students, whether from Harvard or SNESL take the very same bar exam and if they pass, they've proven their competence to practice law.
ReplyDeleteIt's me, the negative one. Yes, I do agree with you on those points, but it's an example of our future leaders limiting their own potential.
ReplyDeleteAnd, to be honest, limiting the size of the student loans they must pay back upon graduation.
ReplyDeleteHave you compared the cost of a SNESL degree with that of one from BC, Harvard, Suffolk, etc.? If so, then you might understand the choice of the non-pedigreed degree. Also, I find it difficult to understand your thought that attaining a PhD or Juris Doctor is limiting. What are your alternatives?
To put things in perspective for you, only 11% of adults over 25 in Fall River have even a bachelors degree. How is it that someone is limiting themself by pursuing higher education...other than making themselves overqualified in Fall River.
ReplyDeleteI don't know where Miozza went to school but I do know that PhD's aren't just handed out like candy. As far as Southern New England School of Law, it is a terrific school whose graduates (Dave Dennis) have to pass the same bar that Harvard does. SNESL is trying very hard to become accredited which, perhaps, makes them even tougher on their students.
In either case, it is a bit elitist of you to assume that they are intentionally limiting themselves (although I contend they are not limiting themselves at all). Education is cost prohibitive for too many. Not everyone can afford Harvard. Does that mean no one should go to school?
I would rather have a leader that was fiscally responsible enough to get the same education at the less expensive school.
Perhaps you should run with your Harvard Degree that makes you qualified for a lowly position such as mayor or city councilor of fall river.
ReplyDeleteWho? What?
ReplyDeleteMore honest than elitist.
ReplyDeleteIn your OPINION
ReplyDeleteIt makes me sad that you feel that way. I just don't understand your viewpoint.
ReplyDeleteI promise you--there is life after Fall River. Get your degree anyway you can. You are only limited if you allow yourself to be limited.
ReplyDeleteOf course you should get your degree. However, if you've ever lived and worked OUTSIDE Fall River, you would know that there is value placed on where a degree is from. That's why some schools are more difficult to get into. Not my rules.
ReplyDeleteFor example, there are reasons why the Southern New England School of Law is not ABA-approved. Do your research before giving them $22K per year.
If you have a passion to be an attorney and SNESL is your only option, then you should go. You will not be able to sit for the bar in other states, and you will not be looked at for higher positions within the legal profession or entry-level positions at top law firms. Therefore, you will limit yourself geographically and professionally. Doesn't mean you can't still do a lot with the degree, but I hate to see people limit themselves if it can be avoided.
SNESL is a lower-cost alternative to other law schools, but tuition is still quite expensive. One reason for the school's existence is to service students who can't get into accredited law schools.
I get aggravated when those who disagree with me immediately throw Harvard out there as the only alternative. Roger Williams is a good local option. It's ranked in the bottom tier, but at least it's ABA-approved. New England School of Law and Suffolk are other lower-cost options, but they're in Boston.
If you're going to law school on student loans, you should think about "employability" upon graduation, which has a lot to do with the law school you attended. It may be worth the additional investment to attend an ABA-approved law school--that is if you're academic record gets you in.
Regarding the PhD, correspondence programs don't usually carry the same weight. Again, sorry--not my rules.
That being said, not ready to commit to Dennis, but Miozza impresses me for other reasons, if not his PhD. The Fall River City Council would be lucky to have him and I hope he gets elected this time.
"You will not be able to sit for the bar in other states,"
ReplyDeleteCompletely inaccurate.
You mean not completely accurate... "will" should have been "may." Refer to the case Rodi vs. SNESL.
ReplyDeleteFor the person that recommended Roger Williams School of Law, the school no longer offers a Night Division.
ReplyDeleteThere are those with a job and/or family who cannot afford to leave work for 3 years to become a full-time student, and a night commute to Boston would be impractical.
Then there's a place for you at SNESL. Hope it pays off.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a candidate for city council....perhaps a recently announced attorney, is trying to discredit his competition
ReplyDeletehuh?
ReplyDeleteI think she means Kilby? Eek, care to elaborate?
ReplyDeleteIt is my understanding that Kilby went to Boston College Law School, graduated with honors and aced the bar exam. Boston College had a 97% passing rate that year. The best in the State of Mass.
ReplyDeleteGet to know a person before you assault the same.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Kilby from a hole in the wall but that's impressive, Anon 18:15. He's running for Council? Good, I look forward to hearing what he has to offer. Like I said, I never heard of him, which right now makes him the only dog in this fight I can trust...
ReplyDeleteThe guy would have been a very good Mayor. Too bad. I hope he will try again some day.
ReplyDeleteI knew Brad for many years. Tough guy. He is very much the Herren type.
ReplyDeleteWJ,
ReplyDeleteKilby has already been on the school committee and city council
but he is his own man. You should see what he has to offer.
Brad Kilby is in no way shape or form to be compared to a thug like Herren! Shame on you!
ReplyDeleteditto
ReplyDeleteIs Poulin running??
ReplyDeleteI made this prediction many months ago and will once again state that Poulin and Kilby will both be on the council next year and Correia will be re-elected easily.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of BC -- but Kilby must have some intellectual capability. BC Law is pretty competitive and ranked in the top 30 in the country.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about BC law but Mike Herren went to BC if that is any indicator of their standards.
ReplyDeleteAnon 13:31: there's a huge difference between "graduated with honors" and "kicked out for underperformance".
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing rumblings that this Kilby is tight with the Herren boys? Welp, so much for that idea.....
Herren did support Kilby in the 2007 mayoral election so yes they are tight but Kilby had a lot of jocks and ex-jocks supporting his candidacy hence the push for the overly expensive and unneeded $10 million dollar football field at Durfee. I would rather have spent a million or $2 and spent the rest on education.
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, where has Kilby been the last 2 years? He completely disappeared after the 2007 mayor's race, that doesn't suggest to me that he is someone that cares about the city.
This blog should be re-named.
ReplyDeleteIt should be called the "lunatic fringe".
WSAR SHOULD BE RENAMED- WSCOOP, BREAKING NEWS, BREAKING NEWS, THE BEST NEWS EVER, THE BEST NEW EVER. DONOVAN GETS THE ABBEY GRILLE THATS RIGHT YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST ON SCOOP RADIO.
ReplyDeleteReally ??? There was no auction, so how did he get the Abbey ?
ReplyDeleteRead the paper it looks like it is on hold until may.
ReplyDeleteWSAR should change its call letters to WSOR for We're really SORry the station's audio trash can't be stifled.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, so much for Breaking News, and he thinks he's on the inside of things, ha! Just do the surveys and let grandma and scott do the talking. The Phelan kid needs his own show, he's got credibilty, even if he was Menards gofer at one time.
ReplyDeleteChadelaine was Menard's gopher too, and we can see now how much that's worth.
ReplyDeleteKilby went to NESL night school not Boston College Law.
ReplyDeleteKilby went to Bridgewater State, and New England School of Law. Get your facts straight.
ReplyDeleteOccupation: Attorney
Education: Durfee High School; Bridgewater State College, bachelor's degree in secondary education; New England School of Law

Kilby is an intelligent guy, why knock him on something like that? You're better off knocking him on where the hell he has been the last 2 years. At least that's a valid point. He totally disappeared after the last mayoral election.
ReplyDeleteYou can also knock him on the fact that he looked to Al Herren and his reject son Mikey for support!
ReplyDeleteHe did not "look to" them for support, they did support him of their own choice.
ReplyDeleteKilby has been raising a family. By the way, he is doing a great job. I wish I could say the same for other father's in this City.
ReplyDeleteKilby can put up a sign. He is the king when it comes to this. Positioning, structural integrity, etc. you name it, his signs have got it. Well placed, high and tight, looking good. HE also has a nice fence around his house. Have you seen this thing? It is like a fortrice. Wow. If he runs things anything like the way he puts up signs or fences around his house, he'll do a pretty good job. Keep it up Brad.
ReplyDeleteNew England School of Law is ABA-approved. Bottom-tier and no BC, but certainly respectable.
ReplyDeleteKilby definitely was the king of signs in 2007. At least he won that race.
ReplyDeleteBased on the way the current administration has run this city into the ground, I would not be looking back to compare who won what and who didn't. Obviously the wrong guy won the mayoral election.
ReplyDeleteBrad Kilby doesn't think so, he only has nice things to say about the Mayuh so go ahead and vote in another rubber stamp.
ReplyDelete
